Dr. Cornel West Joins NYC Racial Equity & Reparations Conversation at Riverside Church

The New York City Commission on Racial Equity brought community, culture and public policy together at Riverside Church for its Racial Equity & Reparations event on September 25, 2026.

The evening featured renowned scholar, philosopher and author Dr. Cornel West in conversation with NYC Commission on Racial Equity Chair and Executive Director Linda Tigani.

The discussion was moderated by Emmy Award-winning producer Tyrik Washington and explored racial equity, reparations, historical accountability, truth, healing and reconciliation in New York City.

Grammy-nominated singer Kelly Price also delivered a special musical performance, bringing music and cultural expression into a broader conversation about justice, community and social change.

The gathering formed part of the New York City Commission on Racial Equity’s ongoing work surrounding the city’s reparations study and citywide Truth, Healing and Reconciliation process.

The event invited New Yorkers to engage directly with questions surrounding history, policy, accountability and the future of racial equity in the city.
