Taylor Swift added another historic achievement to her career at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
Swift became the inaugural recipient of MTV’s Artist Director Honors, an award created to recognize musical artists whose work behind the camera has advanced music video and visual storytelling.
Dakota Johnson presented Swift with the honor during the September 27 ceremony in Los Angeles.
During her acceptance, Swift reflected on nearly two decades of creating music videos and revealed that she has participated in approximately 60 videos throughout her career, writing and directing 18 of them.

Following the presentation, Swift premiered the music video for her single “Patient Zero,” which she directed and stars in alongside Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.
The honor recognizes not simply the artist in front of the camera, but the creative vision behind it.
