The next generation of R&B stepped into the spotlight as WBLS 107.5 FM presented Mic’s On, an intimate live music showcase at LÉLÉ Restaurant in New York City.
Hosted by WBLS radio personality JusNik, the evening created a platform for emerging artists to move beyond the screen and connect with a live audience, backed by the energy and musicianship of a live band.
Throughout the night, upcoming artists took the microphone to showcase their individual sound, stage presence and artistry before a New York audience.
Among the evening’s performers was 15 year old emerging R&B artist Angelina Thompson, who brought a commanding presence to the room from the moment she stepped onto the stage.
Performing with the live band and a WBLS microphone in hand, Thompson delivered a performance that showcased both her vocal ability and a growing confidence as a live performer. Dressed in a shimmering gold look, she brought an unmistakable energy to the intimate setting, turning her appearance into another significant moment in her developing career.

Inside Mic’s On

For Thompson, the WBLS stage represents more than another performance. It places the young artist inside the ecosystem of a New York radio institution with a longstanding connection to R&B, soul and Black music culture.
And that is part of what makes Mic’s On significant.
At a time when artists can build audiences online before ever stepping onto a traditional stage, platforms like Mic’s On create something social media cannot replicate: the opportunity to stand in front of a room, perform with live musicians and allow the music itself to make the introduction.
For emerging artists, those rooms still matter.
For Angelina Thompson, Sunday night was another opportunity to show that she is becoming increasingly comfortable in them.
