RAYE, sombr & Teddy Swims Set to Honor George Michael in Special 2026 MTV VMAs Tribute

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards are adding another major musical moment to this year’s ceremony.

CBS and MTV have announced that RAYE, sombr and Teddy Swims will come together for a special tribute performance honoring the late George Michael when the VMAs air live Sunday, September 27.

The tribute celebrates the enduring legacy of one of pop music’s most influential artists, arriving 40 years after George Michael’s career-defining album “Faith.”

Michael was a four-time MTV Video Music Awards winner and received the prestigious Video Vanguard Award in 1989.

RAYE will make her VMAs performance debut this year, appearing both in the George Michael tribute and in a separate solo performance. The two-time VMA winner is also nominated twice at the 2026 ceremony, including Song of the Year for “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!”

sombr returns to the VMAs performance stage while entering this year’s ceremony with multiple nominations.

Teddy Swims will also return to the VMAs stage, marking his first appearance on the show since 2024.

Acclaimed musician, producer and musical director Adam Blackstone will serve as Music Director for the George Michael tribute.

The special performance joins a growing lineup of artists and moments planned for the 2026 VMAs, with additional performers, presenters and special guests expected to be revealed as the ceremony approaches.

Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, September 27, from 7:30–9:30 PM ET / 4:30–6:30 PM PT on CBS, simulcast on MTV and stream live in the United States for Paramount+ Premium subscribers.
