Jesse Eisenberg's The Debut has been selected as the opening film of the 23rd Marrakech International Film Festival, Deadline reports. The comedy stars Julianne Moore as a shy housewife who discovers a passion for amateur theater.
Written and directed by Eisenberg — the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind A Real Pain — the film features an ensemble that includes Paul Giamatti, Halle Berry and Havana Rose Liu. It has already played Telluride and Toronto and closed the BFI London Film Festival, and will screen out of competition as a gala presentation in Marrakech, where Eisenberg is expected to attend.
The festival, running November 20–28 in Morocco, will present 76 films from 39 countries across its Official Competition, Gala Screenings and sidebar sections, with Marion Cotillard heading the jury that awards the Étoile d'Or.
