The road to the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards just added another major premiere.

CBS and MTV announced Thursday that the official music video for Taylor Swift’s new single “Patient Zero” will make its world premiere during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 27.

Directed by Swift, the new visual brings Hollywood star power into the music world with Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson appearing alongside the global recording artist.

The project also brings an acclaimed cinematic eye behind the camera. Academy Award-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, whose credits include “The Revenant,” “Birdman” and “Gravity,” serves as cinematographer for the video.

“Patient Zero” arrives as part of “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,” with the expanded project scheduled to become available Friday, September 25.

A first glimpse of the visual was unveiled through “CBS Mornings,” offering audiences a brief preview ahead of Sunday's full world premiere.

The announcement adds another high-profile moment to an already significant VMA weekend for Swift.

Earlier this week, CBS and MTV announced that Swift will receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, recognizing her work behind the camera and her contribution to music-video storytelling.

Now, only days after that announcement, the VMAs will also serve as the global stage for the debut of her latest directorial work.

The combination of music, film and visual storytelling underscores the role music videos continue to play in shaping major cultural moments — and positions Sunday's broadcast as the first place audiences will experience “Patient Zero” in full.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by Snoop Dogg, will air Sunday, September 27, from 7:30–9:30 PM ET on CBS, simulcast on MTV and stream on Paramount+ Premium in the United States.
